Local youth group to enjoy the fruits of their labours

The YPs rehearsing at the newly-opened Duchess Theatre.
Long Eaton’s Young Performers (YPs) are to stage their first pantomime in the theatre they helped to rebuild.

The youth theatre group were left devastated in 2003 after fire destroyed the Duchess Theatre of West Gate, Long Eaton.

The YPs, aged 8 to 18 decided to start fundraising to help rebuild the theatre with support from devoted leaders, Victoria Garavan and Leon Wade.

Mr Wade described the theatre as: "the YP's home." After years of fundraising, the theatre was officially reopened in September 2010.

Official website www.youngperformers.co.uk states that new members have yet to experience the fun and games of staging a pantomime.

Mr Wade added: “they have presented pantomime before, but not to the scale of this production,” about the upcoming pantomime Dick Wittington, which is to take to the stage in January 2012.
